A dog stick library welcomes pups at one Greenport hotel. In Montauk, a suite is named after the hotel owner's golden retriever, Koda. A treat and a premium dog bed are set out before a guest and their canine companion arrive at a historic Garden City hotel.
Three Long Island hotels go beyond simply allowing dogs, pairing pet-friendly stays with destinations worth exploring. All are accessible by Long Island Rail Road, making it easy to plan a dog-friendly getaway to the North Fork or South Fork or a weekend exploring Garden City’s shops, restaurants and parks.
Sound View Greenport

Best for: A waterfront getaway, North Fork escape or a trip where the hotel itself is part of the experience
Few things say dog-friendly better than a stick library. A rack of sticks sits on the lawn of Sound View Greenport, so pups can pick one out before heading to the private beach just steps from their room. Many pet-friendly rooms have a deck that extends toward the sand and the waterfront setting makes a great base for exploring Greenport and the rest of the North Fork.

Up to two dogs weighing 50 pounds or less are allowed per room. Dogs can get comfortable with plush dog beds and Yeti dog bowls, available by request, and treats are also provided. The hotel charges a nonrefundable $75 pet fee per stay. The fee does not apply to service dogs but excludes emotional support dogs. Guests must email the hotel before arrival to receive a pet waiver.
Its waterfront location is the big attraction for a dog-friendly getaway. You can start the morning with a walk along the properties lawn and beach, spend the day exploring and return for sunset over the Sound. For dinner, The Halyard, the hotel's on-site restaurant, gives guests an easy option without having to leave the hotel.
