Long Islanders will have a new way to get to the Midwest from Long Island MacArthur Airport.
Breeze Airways is launching new service from the airport in Ronkonkoma to Akron-Canton Airport in Ohio, with a stop in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, using its “BreezeThru” service.
The flights are scheduled to begin in May, with departing service from MacArthur available for purchase on Breeze’s website from May 6 through Sept. 5. Introductory fares start at $282 round trip during the first week of service and drop to about $189 round trip for travel in June. Flight times average about four hours.
Travelers heading to Ohio will make a short stop in Myrtle Beach before continuing on to Akron-Canton, while others can book the flight specifically to South Carolina. BreezeThru allows passengers to stay on the same plane during the stop instead of deplaning and reboarding.
The new route expands Breeze’s growing presence at MacArthur Airport, which has become a key hub for the low-cost carrier’s East Coast service.
“We’re excited to see Breeze continue to grow the market at Long Island MacArthur Airport and expand the range of destinations available to our passengers,” said Robert Schneider, commissioner of the airport owned by the Town of Islip. “The addition of Myrtle Beach and Akron-Canton continues to strengthen Breeze’s presence at ISP and provides our community with more convenient and affordable travel options. The launch of the new service reflects the strong demand for additional air service for Long Island.”
From MacArthur, Breeze currently offers direct flights to several destinations, including Charleston, South Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; and Jacksonville and Tampa, Florida.
Akron-Canton serves northeastern Ohio, providing access to cities like Akron and nearby Cleveland, home to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a top-rated zoo, the indoor-outdoor West Side Market and the restored house featured in the 1986 holiday movie “A Christmas Story.” Cuyahoga Valley National Park lies between Cleveland and Akron, which also has its own zoo. Cedar Point amusement park is in nearby Sandusky, less than a two-hour drive from the airport. Myrtle Beach remains a popular vacation destination known for its beaches and golf resorts.
Breeze, founded by JetBlue founder David Neeleman, has positioned itself as a hybrid low-cost carrier, offering both budget-friendly fares and optional upgraded seating. Its base “No Flex Fare” includes one personal item and a randomly assigned seat and does not allow flight changes. Carry-on bags cost $35 and checked bags cost $40.
Flight schedules and fares are available on the airline’s website.
