A brand of fettuccine Alfredo sold at Walmart stores nationwide has been recalled due to a potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

Gias Foods, Inc. announced a recall of its Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine, which affects all lot codes. The announcement states that as of Oct. 1, "no illnesses have been reported to date." Gia Foods, Inc. did not immediately respond to Newsday to provide an update.

The contamination "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," according to the notice published by the FDA.

In healthy individuals, a Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause symptoms such as high fever, diarrhea and severe headache, along with possible miscarriages and stillbirths for those who are pregnant, according to the announcement.

In a statement to Newsday, Walmart said: "Safety is a top priority. When notified of recalls, we move quickly to remove the impacted products from our stores and implement a sales block at registers and online. We are working closely with our supplier, and customers who have this should discontinue use and follow the recall instructions."

The affected product is frozen and comes in a 22-ounce package, with the UPC number 194346442706.

The bacteria was discovered during a routine sampling program, led by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which resulted in the recall. The company is no longer distributing the product and urges consumers who have purchased it to return it for a full refund.
