Off-price retailer HomeGoods will open its 17th Long Island store Thursday.

The store is in the South Port Shopping Center in Shirley, at 999 Montauk Hwy.

The retailer, which sells home decor and furniture, will occupy 23,482 square feet, will hold a grand opening at 8 a.m. Thursday, but its regular hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily, according to a statement from the retailer.

"Our amazing values, brand names, and vast assortment make HomeGoods an exciting destination for shoppers," John Ricciuti, president of HomeGoods, said in the statement. "With a large variety of merchandise from around the world, customers will always find thrilling values in our treasure hunt shopping experience."

About 65 full- and part-time workers are expected to be hired for the Shirley store, HomeGoods said.

The retailer’s Shirley store is located in a space vacated by a Michaels arts and crafts store in May 2025, Thomas Rettaliata, vice chairman of Ripco Real Estate LLC in Woodbury, said in an email. Rettaliata is one of the brokers representing the landlord, Heidenberg Properties Group in Closter, New Jersey, in leasing the shopping center.

The HomeGoods store in Shirley is among 14 the chain is opening in 11 states in October and November, according to the retailer's website.

The more than 970 HomeGoods stores nationwide are owned by The TJX Companies Inc., a Framingham, Massachusetts-based company whose 5,200 off-price stores, including TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Homesense and Sierra, span 10 countries.

Last year, the company announced a plan to reach 7,000 stores.

But in August, the company announced it had raised that goal to 7,500, following strong second-quarter sales — 6% to 7% — at stores open at least one year under the HomeGoods, TJX Canada and TJX International (Europe and Australia) divisions.

"This now reflects the long-term potential for our TJ Maxx and Marshalls banners to expand an additional 300 stores to a combined 3,300 stores and for the HomeGoods division to expand an additional 200 stores to 2,000 stores," TJX President and CEO Ernie L. Herrman told analysts on an Aug. 19 call about fiscal 2027 second-quarter earnings results.

TJX Companies' net sales for the second quarter, which ended Aug. 1, were $15.2 billion, an increase of 5% compared to the same period a year earlier. Profit for the second quarter increased 22% to $1.5 billion.
