Ross Dress for Less’ push for fast expansion will again include Long Island, where the off-price retailer has opened six stores since entering the region in July 2025.

Ross also plans to open a store in a Selden shopping center, according to a spokeswoman for the landlord. Last month, the retailer announced that it will open a store in Levittown next year.

Ross’ growth nationwide is being fueled by inflation-weary consumers seeking to stretch their dollars with bargains.

On Long Island, the off-price clothing and home goods retailer plans to open a 30,656-square-foot store in the College Plaza shopping center in Selden, at 15 Middle Country Rd., said Maria Pace, spokeswoman for the landlord, Brixmor Property Group, a Manhattan-based real estate investment trust.

Ross plans to open its Levittown store, which will occupy 20,000 square feet at 2965 Hempstead Tpke., in July, Newsday previously reported.

Both the Selden and Levittown spaces were among 15 U.S. stores vacated by Wren Kitchens in April after the United Kingdom-based designer and manufacturer of kitchen cabinets and countertops filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Dublin, California-based Ross Stores Inc. did not immediately respond to a request for comment, so it is unclear when the Selden store will open or how many people it will employ.

The company operates 1,993 Ross stores in 45 states; Washington, D.C.; Guam; and Puerto Rico. It also operates 384 DD's Discounts stores in 24 states, but none in New York.

The company has been pushing fast growth amid strong sales from bargain hunters.

Ross entered the Long Island market in July 2025 with a store in Hempstead Village, followed by a store in Farmingville in October 2025, two stores in Lake Grove and Riverhead in March, one in West Babylon last July and one in Holbrook this month.

On Monday, Ross Stores Inc. announced it had opened 41 Ross stores and 10 DD’s Discounts stores in 17 states in September and October, completing the company’s growth plan of opening 115 stores in its fiscal year 2026.

"We remain confident in the long-term opportunities for both brands. As customers increasingly seek great brands at great prices, Ross' off-price offering continues to resonate, and we believe we are well positioned to grow to at least 2,900 Ross Dress for Less and 700” DD’s Discounts stores over time, Richard Lietz, executive vice president of property development at Ross, said in a statement.

Ross is seeing an increase in new customers across a wide range of incomes and ages, CEO James G. Conroy told analysts during a second-quarter quarter earnings call in August.

"Once in our stores, both new and existing customers are responding to our compelling values and a broader selection of fashion and brands," he said.

Ross' sales in the second quarter, which ended Aug. 1, increased 13% to $6.3 billion, up from $5.5 billion in the same period in 2025, the company reported in August. Sales at stores open at least one year "rose a very strong 10% for the quarter," Ross said.

Profit rose 68% to $851.3 million.
