Tinker Auto Parts chain cuts 51 jobs at 2 Long Island locations

A Long Island regional chain of auto parts stores has laid off a total of 51 workers at two of its sites, in Brentwood and Bohemia, according to state labor department filings.

Tinker Auto Parts, which provides parts and machining services for mechanics and other customers, said in a state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice to the state that the company would be letting go of workers at the sites on Aug. 30.

Officials with Tinker, which also operates as Alray Car Parts Supply & Mfg. Corp., did not respond to requests for comment. The company is headquartered in Brentwood, according to New York Department of State corporation records. 

The layoffs include the loss of 20 jobs at the employer’s Tinker West location in Brentwood at 200 Suffolk Ave., and 31 jobs at its Airport Auto Parts location at 1650 Locust Ave. in Bohemia, according to the state WARN notice.

The business has an additional location in Brentwood at 1091 Suffolk Ave.,and another shop in Bay Shore at 199 Fifth Ave. 

The company was founded in 1962, according to its website.

The New York WARN Act requires employers with a minimum of 50 full-time employees to file notice of a mass layoff or business closure with the state 90 days in advance.
