A new Walgreens has opened in Hampton Bays, in a former Rite Aid.

The store had its soft opening on Tuesday and will host its grand opening festivities on Friday, said Daniel Blander, the store manager. He told Newsday by phone that the grand opening will include a ribbon-cutting with Walgreens CEO Mike Motz.

In the meantime, the store is open for business and already getting some foot traffic.

"We've been getting a lot of people," Blander said. "We're doing pretty well for the first couple days."

The store is at 50 E. Montauk Highway. The Rite Aid in that location closed over a year ago, in June 2025, as the chain shuttered stores across the country as part of its bankruptcy proceedings.

There are approximately 55 Walgreens stores across Long Island, according to the company website's store locator. The new Hampton Bays store is in a plaza alongside businesses including Starbucks, Tropical Smoothie Cafe and King Kullen.

District leadership and corporate executives are expected to attend the grand opening, Blander said.
