One of Long Island’s biggest multiplexes is offering a bargain this weekend, but for one day only.
The Island 16: Cinema De Lux in Holtsville will sell $7 movie tickets on Saturday, along with $7 small popcorn-and-drink combos. The deal is good for any movie in any format at any time that day, excluding Event Cinema screenings, according to theater owner Showcase Cinemas.
That means Long Islanders on Saturday will be able to spend less than half the cost of a typical ticket to see "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," the new horror film "Lee Cronin’s The Mummy," the Bob Odenkirk action thriller "Normal," Zendaya’s critically acclaimed romance "The Drama" and several other titles. The $7 concession combo for a small popcorn and drink would also run less than half the usual cost, roughly $18, according to prices listed at the theater’s website. Event Cinema screenings such as the WWE WrestleMania bout between Roman Reigns and CM Punk would not be included in the offer.
The cinema will also waive the $10 fee to join its Popcorn Club membership, available to children 11 and under, which includes discounts on movie parties and free merchandise.
Showcase, a subsidiary of Paramount Skydance that lists 22 U.S. locations on its website, did not explain why the Island 16 was selling the discounted tickets or whether other locations were offering anything similar. The company did not respond to a request for comment through a publicist.
