The man who wrote the songs that make the whole sing is about to do it again. On Monday, singer-songwriter Barry Manilow announced "What a Time," his first studio album in 15 years, will be coming out on June 5.
The Grammy Award winner, who is scheduled to bring "Manilow: The Last Long Island Concert" to Elmont's UBS Arena on April 13, also released the video for "Sun Shine," the upbeat first single from the album, on Monday.
"What a Time" will feature 13 tracks, including collaborations with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Dave Cobb, and longtime co-writers Bruce Sussman and Adrienne Anderson. According to the announcement, the songs will cover various musical styles, "from classic, string-swept torch songs to groove-driven R&B flourishes, heartland rock touches, and gospel-inspired crescendos."
"What a Time" marks Manilow's first studio recording since 2011's "15 Minutes." That album, which consisted of 15 original songs, was released independently by Manilow. It debuted at No. 7 on Billboard's Top 200.
In addition to the new album, Manilow, 82, is embarking on his farewell tour, which includes his UBS show next month. In December, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and was forced to cancel all of his January concerts. Last month, he announced on social media that he had to cancel more shows from Feb. 27 to March 17 as he continued to recuperate following surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his left lung.
