For those seeking some late summer jazz, head to Stony Brook for the 12th annual Harbor Jazz Festival from Sept. 16-19. The four-day festival, presented by The Jazz Loft, will combine live music with vintage vehicles and gourmet dining.
"This year’s lineup delivers an extraordinary opportunity to hear some of the world’s finest jazz artists, right here in our own backyard," The Jazz Loft founder Thomas Manuel said. "These musicians regularly grace the top venues in New York City and now our Long Island community gets to experience them up close in a truly unique setting."
The concerts will take place on the Village Green Stage (in front of the Stony Brook shops) overlooking Stony Brook Harbor, across the street at the Jazz Loft Lawn Stage and inside The Jazz Loft.
Opening night, Sept. 16, will feature The Jazz Loft Trio led by Frank Hanson, 7-9:30 p.m., inside the Jazz Loft.
On Sept. 17, the Mike LaDonne Organ Trio headlines at The Jazz Loft, 7-9:30 p.m.
The Vijay Iyer Trio takes over The Jazz Loft on Sept. 18, 7-9:30 p.m.
The week culminates with a series of free outdoor concerts at the Village Green Stage and the Jazz Loft Lawn Stage on Sept. 19. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. In the event of inclement weather, all performances will get moved inside The Jazz Loft.
