Merrick's Betty's Burgers & Ice Cream Bar closes indefinitely after storm damage

Betty’s Burgers & Ice Cream Bar in Merrick has closed “[until] further notice due to the impact of the storm,” an announcement made on Instagram on Monday said.
The post didn’t include any information on a reopening date. Ownership has not responded to requests for comment.
“Due to circumstances out of our control and being affected by the storm this past weekend, we will be closed,” the post read. “We would like to thank the Merrick community and everyone who has supported us. Our establishment has taken significant damage but we will come back and serve all of you. Thank you for understanding while we go through this process.”
The post also included a photo of the space at Bayberry Avenue, where the entryway and parking area were flooded. The eatery opened on Aug. 11, Newsday previously reported. The building had various lives including Sunset Bar & Grill, JDs on the Bay, Cozy Clam and Harbor Lights — and Anchor Down.
The eatery’s menu whipped up by Burgerology veteran Chef Jonathan Chevlin included nine regular burgers, like the Carolina Stack ($24) made with pork rib tips, melted cheddar, coleslaw, bacon jam and Carolina gold BBQ sauce. Off burger items included baked pretzel with beer cheese ($15) for their starters, southwest chicken egg rolls ($16) and a chicken avocado BLT ($18).
Long Islanders are still cleaning up after a nor’easter that lashed the area over the weekend is still affecting about 4,000 PSEG customers with just under 500 outages reported, compared to 774 reported outages as of Sunday night, Newsday previously reported.
