Carrie Solages D

BACKGROUND

• Solages, 46, of Valley Stream, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic and Working Families party lines in the general election. He was elected to the legislature in 2011. In 2022, he ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary for Congress in New York’s 4th Congressional District.
• He is a former Bronx assistant district attorney and has served as commissioner of the Nassau Commission on Human Rights. He has had a private practice since 2006.
• Solages is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in international history, and is a graduate of Boston College Law School.

ISSUES

• Solages said he wants to fix the broken property tax assessment system, which he said is unsustainable.
• He said he would like to create a community center in Elmont and has received support for this from the state. Solages also wants to reduce air traffic over Elmont and Valley Stream, as he said he believes there is a connection between the airplane traffic and high cancer rates in the community.
• Solages said he will advocate for major infrastructure improvements.
