BACKGROUND

• Herskowitz, 44, of Northport, a registered Democrat, is an immigration attorney helping families seek asylum. He is running on the Democratic Party line. Previously he worked at the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division, leading complex financial investigations involving money launderers, drug traffickers and terrorists. 
• He was assistant counsel to then-Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and an administrative law judge for the New York City Department of Financial Services. 
• He was the Democratic nominee for the New York State Senate District 2 in 2024. 

ISSUES

• Hershkowitz said he would address affordability issues as Suffolk County is becoming increasingly unaffordable, while its tax dollars are being diverted to other parts of the state and country.
• He said he would fight for the county’s fair share of funding.
• Environmental issues such as improving water quality and modernizing sewer and public transportation systems are also priorities, he said.
