BACKGROUND

  • Bontempi, 59, of Centerport, a registered Republican who was elected to the county legislature in 2021, is seeking a third term. She is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines. She is a former elementary school teacher. 
  • Her community and charitable involvement include the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, the Townwide Fund of Huntington, Lions Clubs International, and the Town of Huntington Beautification Advisory Council. 
  • She was born and raised in Sweden and France and has dual citizenship — U.S. and Sweden. She has a BS/BA in economics/finance from the University of Hartford, and an MS in elementary education and an MS in educational technology from C.W. Post, Long Island University.

ISSUES

  • Bontempi said public safety is a priority and that it is crucial to continue supporting and funding law enforcement.
  • She said economic development is essential if the county wants to retain its workforce and allow seniors to remain in Suffolk. To do this, she would work to expand and improve upon the county’s infrastructure, give businesses incentives to remain and grow in Suffolk, and create job opportunities and broader housing options for residents.
  • She said she will continue to focus on protecting the environment.
