BACKGROUND

  • Nuñez, 47, of Valley Stream, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She is seeking to win an open seat in the new 14th Nassau County Legislative District, created this year after a two-year court battle to give more weight to underrepresented groups.
  • She is a first-generation Latina American whose parents are Dominican and Puerto Rican. She has lived in Valley Stream for 16 years.
  • Nuñez has a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University. She is director of operations for Labaton Keller Sucharow law firm in Manhattan and serves on the Valley Stream School District 24 Board of Education.

ISSUES

  • Nuñez said she is “a strong advocate for accountability, transparency and responsible use of taxpayer dollars.” She said that if elected she will “deliver transparent leadership, fiscal discipline and real results for working families.”
  • Nuñez said she has worked to improve district schools and strengthen community trust in government. 
  • She said she helped secure a $500,000 grant for new district water filtration systems to ensure “cleaner, safer drinking water for local students and families.”
