BACKGROUND

• Ali, 32, of Elmont, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He is vying for an open seat in the new 14th Nassau County Legislative District, created this year after a two-year court battle to give more weight to underrepresented groups. He ran two years ago and lost in his old district, Legislative District 3.
• He is a graduate of Sewanhaka High School in Elmont and has bachelor’s and law degrees from St. John’s University. He is a lawyer in private practice in Nassau County. Ali previously served as a felony assistant district attorney in Brooklyn and a deputy Nassau County attorney.
• He said he and his wife led a fundraiser in 2022 to help Long Island families and shelters during the baby formula shortage.

ISSUES

• Ali said that if elected he will support a county property tax freeze.
• He said he helped develop a Nassau County law that he said prevents “biological men from competing with biological women at county sporting facilities.”
• He said that if elected he will back law enforcement, invest in police resources and technology and oppose what he called “reckless, pro-criminal policies that put families at risk.”
