Daniel J. Goodwin
Superintendent of Highways, Town of Southold

Credit: Town of Southold
BACKGROUND
- Goodwin, 37, of Cutchogue, who is not registered in a political party, is running on the Democratic and Working Families party lines. He is seeking his second term as highway superintendent.
- He is vice president of the Suffolk County Highway Superintendents Association and active in Ducks Unlimited.
- He said he graduated from Western New England College with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
ISSUES
- Goodwin said he would continue his outreach efforts to explain the highway department’s work in doing road maintenance, its coastal resiliency practices and storm preparedness efforts. There’s interest from residents given the town’s 200 miles of coastline, he said, and he speaks with civic associations and homeowner groups.
- He said he would continue mapping initiatives for roads that would be affected in storm flooding so residents can plan accordingly and continue meetings with shelter volunteers and police to plan how to get volunteers in place during weather emergencies. The sessions have been well received, he said, and are offered in Spanish as well.
- He said he would continue the department’s paving, sidewalk and drainage work, noting 152 drainage systems have been installed so far with direct discharge pipes removed.
