BACKGROUND
- Troche, 62, of Brentwood, is a registered Republican running on the Republican and Conservative lines for the Islip Town Board's 1st District. He unsuccessfully ran against New York State Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Brentwood) in 2012.
- Troche was born in Puerto Rico and has lived in Brentwood for 20 years. He has served as a volunteer firefighter with the Brentwood Fire Department for two decades and currently manages a facility that produces road marking materials.
- He serves on the board of Islip's Community Development Agency. Troche said he also serves on the Suffolk County Sherriff's office's Law Enforcement Community Advisory Board.
ISSUES
- Troche said he aims to retain local businesses by ensuring the areas around them are safe so that they can "prosper."
- He aims to work with Suffolk County representatives to address "mental illness and the homeless." He contends that while those are not townwide issues, the problem is "scaring our store owners" and driving customers away in the district.
- Troche wants to revitalize downtown Brentwood on Suffolk Avenue. He believes that effort has been stalled for decades as community leaders argue over who takes the lead, but "it's about doing it together." He mentioned installing new flower beds and flags, at a minimum.
