BACKGROUND

  • Silverman, 55, of Glen Cove, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She is seeking a fourth term.
  • She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA in finance. She has more than 30 years’ experience in financial budgeting, planning and data analytics.
  • Silverman co-chairs the Glen Cove Memorial Day committee, is the liaison from the city council to the Glen Cove Senior Center and established Glen Cove’s Disability Task Force.

ISSUES

  • Silverman said that as a council member she initiated an audit with the State Comptroller’s Office that returned $1.6 million to Glen Cove. She said she established the city’s first finance committee.
  • She said she will focus on downtown revitalization to attract new businesses and address local needs for affordable housing, cultural attractions, retail and clean industry. Silverman said she will ensure that the projects do “not over-develop or negatively impact the environment.”
  • She said she will focus on “quality of life” issues such as improving infrastructure, public services and community spaces and investment in road repairs, upgraded water and sewer systems and solutions for traffic flow and parking.
