Credit: Town of Southold
BACKGROUND
- Planamento, 58, of Southold, a registered Republican, is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. This is his first bid for elected office.
- He is an associate broker with William Raevis Real Estate, formerly Town and Country Real Estate, and previously operated a home furnishings and real estate business on Love Lane. He is vice chairman of the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals, where he has been a member for eight years. He is the town’s representative to the Suffolk County Planning Commission and is vice chairman of the Southold Board of Assessment Review.
- He said he graduated from Pace University with bachelor’s degrees in marketing and history and studied architecture at The City College of New York.
ISSUES
- Planamento said he is well-qualified to help the town board usher in changes under the town’s proposed new zoning code, which the town board will implement so zoning mirrors the town’s master plan. "I’m extremely qualified on that point," he said.
- As a former business owner, he said he would be a voice for business, agriculture and agri-entertainment and work to build consensus, drawing on his 20 years of public service in volunteer roles.
- Planamento said he would work to preserve Southold’s resources, open spaces and waterways for future generations against development pressures.
