BACKGROUND

• Englebright, 79, of Setauket, a registered Democrat, is running on the Democratic and Working Families lines.
• He previously served in the Suffolk County Legislature starting in 1983, before serving 31 years as a state Assemblyman, where he chaired the Environmental Conservation committee.
• He teaches part-time at Stony Brook University, where he earned a master’s degree in paleontology and sedimentology.

ISSUES

• He said holding down costs and "being responsive to the economic needs of the district" are primary objectives. 
• As the "only elected scientist" on Long Island, he said he's primarily concerned with "protecting our ground and surface waters." 
• He would like to see the county's vast park system become "an institution of optimism" not just a recreational or "passive place to store property."
