BACKGROUND

  • Schermeyer, 63, of Remsenburg, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. She is seeking reelection to a sixth term.
  • She served as the New York State Town Clerks Association district director for Long Island, and was president of the Nassau Suffolk Town Clerks Association.
  • Schermeyer received a degree in public administration, business and accountancy from Southampton College (now Long Island University).

ISSUES

  • Schermeyer said improving constituent services is important and noted that a new online permit application system that accepts credit card payments has been implemented.
  • She said the town is working on designing a custom software system to replace the current town clerk portal software that allows the public to watch meetings, including for the town board, zoning board and planning board, and allows people to access archival information. 
  • Schermeyer said she has “digitized most of the building.” As a New York State appointed records management officer, she oversees 16,000 cubic feet of archival records for more than 37 departments.
