Yankees' George Lombard Jr. exits in 4th inning with right knee discomfort

George Lombard Jr. tweaked his right knee on a check swing during a second-inning at-bat Saturday night.
The rookie shortstop, evaluated by manager Aaron Boone and head trainer Tim Lentych near home plate, talked his way into staying in the game, but he was replaced by Jose Caballero at short in the top of the fourth.
The Yankees later announced that he left the game with “right knee discomfort” and that Lombard soon would undergo imaging on the knee. After the Yankees’ 9-2 victory over the Red Sox in Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader, Boone said early indications from that testing were good, though team medical personnel was “still working through them.”
Boone said he does not think Lombard will require a stint on the injured list. “Looks like a day-to-day situation,” he said.
“That’s what I heard, that it’s not too bad,” Caballero said. “That’s great news because he’s been playing really well. We need the whole group together and healthy.”
