GREENBURGH — OG Anunoby took a step toward coming back from his hamstring injury when he joined his team on Wednesday for what coach Mike Brown described as “parts of practice.”
Anunoby missed the final two games of the Knicks' sweep of the Philadelphia 76ers after straining his hamstring in Game 2 of that Eastern Conference semifinal. The team surely would like him to be available when they meet either Detroit or Cleveland in the Eastern Conference finals.
Anunoby was seen shooting Wednesday with Knicks assistants when the media was allowed into the gym.
“He practiced today, some aspects of it,” Brown said later. “Some parts of practice. When we went live, he did not go live.”
It was not clear whether Anunoby was able to do any sprinting. When Brown was asked about that, a team official said he was doing individual work and didn’t want to get into more detail.
Brown said he was encouraged by what he saw.
“Anytime anyone is able to do stuff, you get encouraged,” he said.

Anunoby has some more time to test the hamstring as the earliest the next round could open is Sunday. The Knicks completed their sweep of the 76ers last Sunday, so they will have at least seven days off and possibly nine.
Anunoby was having a huge postseason before suffering the injury. In his eight games, he averaged 21.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot 61.9% from the field.
