The hits keep coming as the Giants lose key players to injury.
Inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury, according to multiple reports.
Edmunds was hurt trying to make a tackle last Sunday during the Saints’ last offensive play on their second-to-last drive of the game.
Edmunds, who started every game this season, signed a three-year, $36 million deal in the offseason as one of the Giants’ marquee free-agent acquisitions. They valued both his tackling and his durability; he played no fewer than 13 games in his previous eight seasons.
Edmunds’ 50 tackles led the Giants and tied him for 10th in the NFL this season. His 32 solo tackles were tied with rookie teammate Arvell Reese for second-most in the NFL behind Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean.
Edmunds had at least 100 tackles in each of his first eight seasons, tied for the second-longest streak since 1994, when tackles officially became tracked by the NFL.
The Giants have lost four starters from Week 1 to season-ending injuries: quarterback Jaxson Dart (knee), outside linebacker Brian Burns (ACL) and receiver/kick returner Braxton Berrios (foot/ankle) and Edmunds.
Dart, Burns and Edmunds also were among the eight players selected to the Giants’ leadership council.
Micah McFadden is expected to take over Edmunds’ role next to Reese. The fifth-year veteran started 28 games in 2023-24 but suffered a season-ending foot injury in last year’s season opener.
McFadden had mostly been used on special teams this season.
