Newsday's top 100 Long Island boys soccer players for 2026

Newsday's annual list of the top 100 Long Island high school boys soccer players to start the 2026 season, listed in alphabetical order. All stats listed are from last season, unless otherwise noted.

Sam Adler, Port Washington, M, Sr.

Adler tallied seven goals and two assists as a sophomore and five goals and seven assists as a junior.

Edwin Alfaro, Whitman, D/F, Sr.

Alfaro starred for Whitman’s 2024 Long Island championship team as a wing back. He opted for club ball last fall but returns with an unmatched work rate.

Ethan Alkelai, Glenn, D, Sr.

Alkelai, now a third-year starter, was a key defensive factor for Glenn, which claimed its second straight Suffolk Class A title and first Long Island championship since 1990. He played every minute.

Oscar Alvarenga, Brentwood, D, Sr.

Alvarenga starred as a left back in 2025 with two goals and 10 assists. He’ll shift inside to center back and run the show.

Max Ascencio, Baldwin, D, Sr.

The shutdown defender, who plays center back and wing back, was beaten for a goal just one time in a one-on-one scenario last season.

Sean Brosokas, Oceanside, M, Sr.

Brosokas played a holding midfielder position and added three goals and as assist. He excels at closing off counter attacks and then starting them.

Jonathan Buonomo, Farmingdale, G, Sr.

Buonomo, who’s a third-year starter, has shown that his reflexes and uncanny ability to put himself in the right position make him a perfect fit in goal.

Hector Calderon, Riverhead, F/M, Sr.

He had seven of Riverhead’s 12 goals and assisted on three more despite missing three games due to injury.

Robbie Campbell, Huntington, F, Sr.

He contributed 10 goals and nine assists in his productive junior season. The third-year starter is physical, strong on the ball and an excellent finisher.

Matteo Campoli, Carey, M, Sr.

A returning captain and fourth-year starter, Campoli had three goals and seven assists last season. His passing and touch make him a natural for the middle of the field.

Evan Cardoso, Carey, F, Sr.

The fourth-year starter has a knack for scoring at the right time as evidenced by his 15th goal of 2025 coming in a 1-0 playoff win over Malverne/East Rockaway.

Cristiano Costa, Carle Place, M, Sr.

Costa is the only starter remaining from Carle Place’s 2024 state championship team, a player with a good in-game IQ and technical ability. He had three goals and seven assists in 2025.

Jayden Crespi, St. Anthony’s, F, Sr.

He had four goals as a junior and figures to increase that number as a striker this season, his second as a starter.

Cris Cuellar, Mattituck, G, Sr.

Cuellar, who has drawn Division I interest, had seven wins and six shutouts, and he had three goals and three assists — as a goalkeeper. The fourth-year starter is outstanding on free kicks.

Leonardo Cuello, Mineola, M/F, Sr.

Cuello scored seven times and had nine assists, and he helped Mineola finish with a share of the Nassau Conference A-I title.

Leonardo Cuervo-Torres, Ward Melville, M, Sr.

Cuervo-Torres has been a starting central defensive midfielder since his sophomore season and never leaves the field. Coach Rocco Vetro feels he’s the “nucleus” for the Patriots.

Ryan Curcio, Commack, M, Sr.

Curcio delivered often in his second season starting, posting 16 goals, including the winner in the Suffolk Class AAA title game and in the state final. The central attacking midfielder also had 14 assists.

Frank Cvecic, Manhasset, F, Sr.

CvecicHe had five goals and five assists before breaking his foot and missing Manhasset’s Nassau Class AA quarterfinal loss to Long Beach. The captain and third-year starter is a left wing with a very dangerous left foot.

Gianluca Damiano, Garden City, F, Sr.

Damiano was mostly a reserve last season but still scored seven times for his state championship team. He’s naturally instinctive around the goal, according to coach Paul Cutter.

Evan DeGroot, Shoreham-Wading River, F, Sr.

He turned in a strong junior season with 10 goals and nine assists. The captain has the ability to finish in different ways.

Joe Dempsey, Kings Park, D, Sr.

Dempsey was a large defensive factor for a team that yielded just 13 goals in a 12-4 run last year. The center back’s qualities include size, strength, speed, technical ability and excellent positioning.

Joseph Donovan, Floral Park, M, Sr.

Donovan’s initial season as a starter came with eight goals and two assists for a 15-3-2 team that advanced via penalty kicks vs. Friends Academy in the Nassau Class A title game. Coach Ahkeel Rodney likes the returning captain’s leadership, determination and ability to confidently strike the ball.

Luke Erickson, Ward Melville, D/F, Sr.

Erickson played center back and had a goal and an assist before his season ended in the sixth game because of a broken ankle. The 6-4 captain and third-year starter, known for being skilled and strong on the ball, will start at center back or center forward, depending on where he’s needed.

Cameron Fischer, Northport, M, Sr.

Fischer can control the midfield as a defensive center midfielder. The second-year starter, who also had two goals and two assists in last season’s run to the Suffolk Class AA title, has shown great footwork and leadership.

Jeremy Galvez, Patchogue-Medford, M, Sr.

The standout center defensive midfielder will dictate possession for a team hoping to avenge a Suffolk Class AAA quarterfinal loss.

Aldo Garayar, Sewanhaka, F, Sr.

Garayar is a third-year starter who scored 11 times as a junior.

Tony Garcia, Smithtown West, F, Sr.

His technical ability and creativity speak to why Garcia is regarded so highly. Garcia had eight goals and eight assists as he led the Bulls to a 10-win season.

James Garvin, Southampton, M/F, Sr.

The returning captain had six goals and four assists as part of a terrific junior season.

Nicholas Gentile, St. Anthony’s, M, Jr.

Gentile enjoyed a tremendous sophomore year on the wings, showcasing excellent attacking and defensive ability. It helped him make Newsday’s All-Long Island first team after finishing with four goals and six assists.

Jimmy George, Herricks, M, Sr.

George, a center midfielder, was a dominant figure in the middle of the field during last season’s run to the Nassau Class AAA championship, according to Highlanders coach Gordon Purdie Jr.

Collin Gibbons, Garden City, M, Sr.

Gibbons made an impact as an energetic, heady reserve on last season’s state Class AA title team. Coach Paul Cutter praised Gibbons for his composure, unselfishness, competitive drive and ability to read the game.

Kyle Godoy, St. Anthony’s, M, Sr.

Godoy had four assists and returns to the starting lineup for a team that expects to be competing for an NSCHSAA title and state CHSAA championship.

Jose Gomez, Malverne/East Rockaway, M, Sr.

Coach Robert Anderson affectionately nicknamed Gomez “Mighty Mouse,” an indicator of his strong impact. The now fourth-year starter had seven goals and 11 assists in 2025.

Christian Graziano, Farmingdale, M, Sr.

The captain had three goals and four assists, highlighting his technical ability and vision in the middle of the field.

Bryan Guerra, Glen Cove, M, Sr.

Guerra posted one goal and eight assists. Coach Brian Smith cited the center midfielder’s passing and awareness.

Michael Hacikian, Manhasset, M, Sr.

Hacikian worked his way into the starting lineup last season and finished with six goals and two assists. The center midfielder is a key element to the attack with his exceptional vision to make passes and his goal-scoring ability.

Dylan Hausfeld, Seaford, G, Sr.

Hausfeld made 104 saves as a junior. The third-year starter’s athleticism allows him to make some great stops.

Brady Herbert, Bethpage, F, Sr.

He contributed three goals and set up eight others. The third-year starter is a hard-working, fast-moving threat at striker.

Carlos Hernandez, Friends Academy, M, Sr.

Hernandez has continued to improve each year, and his work ethic sets the tone for the team. The captain had five goals and six assists and helped the Quakers reach the Nassau Class A final.

Luke Huczko, Valley Stream South, F, Jr.

Huczko came through with 10 goals to lead Nassau Conference A-I and had three assists. He’s very fast and skilled, and he draws penalties.

Antonio Iona, St. Dominic, F, Sr.

Iona is a striker and fourth-year starter who posted 15 goals and five assists for the Bayhawks.

Micah Joseph, Kellenberg, F, Sr.

Joseph delivered eight goals and three assists last year, his first as a starter. The dynamic striker has speed, tactical smarts and the ability to finish.

Hudson Keefer, Chaminade, M, Sr.

Keefer’s winning goal in last year’s state CHSAA championship match sets the table for a big senior season. His creativity and one-on-one ability should play well in Chaminade’s starting lineup.

Matt Keegan, Oceanside, M, Sr.

Keegan stood out as a defensive midfielder last season, a player who closed off potential plays and displayed great anticipation.

James Kelly, St. Anthony’s, F/M, Sr.

He had seven goals and five assists, helping the Friars achieve a 14-win season.

Saif Khan, Herricks, F, Sr.

Khan scored three of his 16 goals in the postseason, a key factor in the Highlanders securing the program’s first Nassau championship since 2005.

Lorenzo Killary, Miller Place, F, Sr.

Killary improved from four goals and four assists as a sophomore to nine goals and eight assists as a junior.

Matt Kobrin, MacArthur, D, Sr.

Kobrin makes his third appearance on Newsday’s Top 100 list after posting seven goals and five assists as a defender last fall. The center back is a fourth-year varsity starter.

Matthew Kucharnik, Chaminade, D, Sr.

Kucharnik returns to the starting lineup for the reigning state CHSAA champions, floating between the midfield and back line. Kucharnik’s ability to launch the attack in transition will be crucial.

Jackson Langevin, Oceanside, F, Sr.

He led Nassau Conference AAA in scoring with 19 goals. The second-year starter commands opposition attention.

Lenny Lemus, Brentwood, M, Sr.

Lemus’ dribbling ability and vision will spark promising attacks.

Kevin Leon, Freeport, F, Sr.

He had 10 goals and three assists for a Freeport side that reached the postseason in 2025. Coach Craig Klasson praised Leon's ability to consistently put himself in position to create scoring opportunities.

Colin Levine, South Side, D, Sr.

He dominated defensively and was a captain for a team that yielded just five goals in last season’s 15-1-2 run that ended in the Nassau AA semifinals. He also contributed four assists.

Max Lombardo, Lindenhurst, M, Sr.

Lombardo had four goals and five assists. He enters his fourth year as a starter with the skills and in-game IQ to match the experience.

Jonathan Lovo Lopez, Islip, F, Jr.

Lovo Lopez is a third-year starter who posted eight goals and seven assists in 2025. He either scored or assisted on 15 of the Buccaneers’ 22 goals.

Marc Machado, Mineola, F, Jr.

Machado burst on the scene as a sophomore, scoring nine goals and assisting on three more for an 8-4-1 team.

Zach Makarewicz, Shoreham-Wading River, F, Sr.

Makarewicz had 21 goals and six assists. Coach Dani Braga praised the captain’s “game-changing ability.”

Jesel Cruz Martinez, Oyster Bay, M, Soph.

Cruz Martinez began playing every minute as a seventh grader and enters his fourth varsity season as one of the most dangerous players in Nassau’s Class B. He had six goals and five assists while drawing an opponent’s best defenders.

Evan Masters, Sachem North, D, Sr.

Masters is a third-year starter and leader for a young, up-and-coming team.

Nicholas McConaghy, Chaminade, D, Sr.

A returning starter from Chaminade’s 17-1-2 state CHSAA championship team, McConaghy brings experience and plenty of talent to the lineup.

Dylan McDonough, Commack, D, Jr.

McDonough started at outside back as a sophomore on the Cougars’ state championship team. Now he’s taking over at center back for his brother Luke, who graduated.

Evan Mehalakes, Carle Place, D, Sr.

He has the size to guard a larger attacker and the speed to catch a quicker one. Mehalakes also had two goals and figures to be a threat on set pieces.

Lucas Mejia, Locust Valley, F/M, Sr.

Mejia went from scoring one goal as a sophomore to showing finishing ability with 16 goals last season.He helped the Falcons place first in Nassau Conference AA-II.

Dominic Mendoza, Long Beach, F, Sr.

Mendoza starred with 10 goals, helping the Marines reach the Nassau Class AA semifinals.

Nico Mieles, Hauppauge, G, Sr.

He registered nine shutouts — the most in Suffolk’s League II — in his first year as a starter.

Marquise Miles, Center Moriches, F, Sr.

Miles came through with 12 goals and nine assists as a striker. The fifth-year starter is a hard worker, a leader and a high IQ player.

Carlos Monroy, Westbury, M, Sr.

He enters his third year as a starter and fourth on varsity. A second-year captain, Monroy has displayed an elite work ethic and leadership.

AJ Mortimer, The Stony Brook School, D, Sr.

Mortimer, a fourth-year starter, has been an anchor defensively. The center back from Bellport can also contribute offensively as shown by his three goals last season for the PSAA champion Bears.

Daniel Murphy, Babylon, M, Sr.

Murphy, a defensive midfielder, scored five goals, including the winner in the Long Island Class B championship game. He also had 10 assists.

Camil Najib, Mineola, M, Sr.

Najib had three goals and six assists. The third-year starter is a technically strong player and a college prospect.

Xavier Navarro, Syosset, F, Sr.

 A dangerous presence inside the box, he produced 11 goals and seven assists to help Syosset reach the Nassau AAA final.

Jeronimo Norena, Mepham, M, Sr.

Norena led Mepham to a 10-win season in which it made the playoffs for the first time since 2022. He had eight assists.

Ezra Oddoye, Huntington, M, Sr.

Oddoye is coming off an eight-goal, seven-assist season. Coach John Pagano raved about his ability to read the game, dribble and distribute.

Axel Paz, Commack, M, Sr.

Paz, a center defensive midfielder/center midfielder, is always a threat to steal the ball and proved himself to be the hardest worker -  an unsung standout on last season’s state AAA title team, according to coach Dave Moran.

Christian Pena, Babylon, M/F, Sr.

Pena had a big junior season with nine goals and 10 assists. The captain has already played on three Suffolk Class B championship teams.

Christian Perez, Mineola, D/M, Sr.

Perez is a former MLS Next player and a second-year starter who brings a high soccer IQ.

Michael Price, Chaminade, M, Sr.

Price excels at winning challenges and brings field vision to the midfield.

Anthony Princi, Farmingdale, D, Sr.

One of Nassau’s best center backs, Princi’s technical ability and strength make him the ideal piece in the middle of the defense.

Elijah Prywes, Half Hollow Hills West, F, Sr.

Prywes, a Grinnell College commit, had 12 goals and 13 assists in 14 games.

Avery Ragozino, Jericho, M/GK, Jr.

Ragozino is a goalkeeper for his club team, Met Oval, and a central midfielder for the Jayhawks. He scored five goals, including one as a goalie, and had three assists.

Zander Ragozino, Jericho, D, Jr.

Ragozino, the twin brother of Avery, is a terrific center back. He has the talent to move upfield but often has to anchor the defense.

Max Rogowski, North Babylon, D, Jr.

Rogowski is a well-regarded, big, tough anchor on the Bulldogs’ back line, but he’s also capable of coming up and finishing.

Shane Rossiter, St. Anthony’s, F, Jr.

Rossiter emerged in his first season as a starter, scoring 12 goals.

Alex Rotunda, Center Moriches, M, Jr.

Rotunda had an impactful 10-goal, nine-assist sophomore year. Coach Mike Russo lauded the third-year starter’s knack for serving great balls into the box and his overall polished play.

Eliab Rubio, Newfield, M/F, Sr.

Rubio followed up a stellar sophomore year with a strong junior season, finishing with seven goals and 10 assists. This is his fifth year as a starter.

Peter Russo, Port Washington, M, Sr.

The fourth-year starter enjoyed his best season, logging four goals and six assists along the left wing. He has good one-on-one ability and a strong shot.

Hector Santiago, Glen Cove, F, Jr.

Santiago delivered nine goals and five assists as a first-year starter. The striker/winger is fast and tough, and can pass or finish with a powerful shot.

Collin Schirrmacher, Oceanside, G, Sr.

Schirrmacher posted nine shutouts for a team that went to the Nassau Class AAA semifinals. He was a key factor for a defense that conceded only six goals.

Thomas Schreier, Garden City, M, Sr.

Schreier started as a defensive midfielder and served as a composed and consistent contributor for the Trojans’ second straight state Class AA championship team.

Logan Seltzer, Half Hollow Hills West, F, Sr.

Seltzer had seven goals and 11 assists in 14 games. The third-year starter took a 31-game starting streak into this season.

Joey Smith, Northport, F, Jr.

Smith delivered 11 goals in his first varsity season. The striker scored in the Suffolk AA semifinals, the final, and the Long Island championship game.

Jack Steinberg, Friends Academy, F, Sr.

Steinberg scored nine times, including the deciding goal against top-seeded Locust Valley in the Nassau Class A semifinals. He also had seven assists.

Kostas Tsirkas, Glen Cove, M, Sr.

Tsirkas had a four-goal, five-assist junior season. The second-year starter is a leader and a threat to score with either foot .

Aidan Velasquez, Newfield, M, Sr.

An exciting addition to Newfield, Velasquez will star in the midfield after previously playing for NYCFC’s U-16 club team.

Jacob Velasquez, Newfield, M, Jr.

The third-year varsity starter, who is the brother of Aidan Velasquez, had two goals and five assists and was a terrific defensive presence in the middle of the field. He also competed for the U-17 El Salvador national team this summer.

Jonathan Velasquez, Patchogue-Medford, F, Sr.

Velasquez has improved yearly, as shown by his 11 goals and five assists last season.

Jaxson Weber, Sachem East, M, Sr.

Weber is looking to play Division I soccer after a strong junior season that included seven goals and 11 assists. Coach Matt Stallone feels the dynamic Weber “plays at a different speed.”

Liam Whitehouse, Malverne/East Rockaway, D, Sr.

Whitehouse has tremendous throw-in and defensive ability, and his 6-4 frame makes him a matchup nightmare on corner kicks.

Mason Woo, South Side, D, Jr.

Woo proved himself to be strong, composed and a leader for a defensive unit that conceded only five goals in 18 games.

John Zoumas, Shoreham-Wading River, M, Sr.

Zoumas posted six goals and 12 assists. Coach Dani Braga mentioned the captain’s superior vision and his ability to control the tempo.
