High school roundup: Baseball and softball playoff results

Giuseppe Calabrese allowed one hit and struck out six in 5 2⁄3 innings to kick-start No. 4 Hauppauge’s 1-0 win over No. 3 West Islip in the Suffolk Class AA loser’s bracket final in West Islip on Thursday. James Migliore pitched the final 1 1⁄3 innings, striking out two, for the save.
With Hauppauge leading 1-0, runners on second and third and none out in the bottom of the sixth, Calabrese struck out two and Migliore induced a lineout to first.
Tucker Brown (two hits) doubled in the top of the sixth and scored on Roman Dixon’s double-play ball for Hauppauge (18-8), which has won five straight elimination games and will face No. 1 Eastport-South Manor at 7 p.m. Saturday at Middle Country Athletic Complex. West Islip finished at 19-5.
SOFTBALL
Miller Place 8, Islip 3: Kelsey Hoffmann, Brooke Borkowski, Delaney Schleider, Laney Vomero and Annabella Filomeno had two hits each, with Hoffmann and Schleider each recording two RBIs, to lead No. 1 Miller Place (18-4) past No. 3 Islip (13-11) in a Suffolk Class A elimination game. Vomero had a solo homer. Miller Place will face No. 2 Kings Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Martha Avenue Field Complex.
Westhampton 14, Hauppauge 7: Katie Burke went 3-for-5 with a grand slam, a double, two runs scored and five RBIs for No. 1 Westhampton (17-6) in the Suffolk Class AA loser’s bracket final against No. 6 Hauppauge (11-11). Westhampton trailed by two entering its nine-run sixth. No. 1 Westhampton will face No. 2 East Islip at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Martha Avenue Field Complex.
Commack 15, Patchogue-Medford 7: Kate Schweitzer went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, a solo homer and six RBIs as No. 2 Commack (20-4) beat No. 3 Patchogue-Medford (20-5) in the Suffolk Class AAA loser’s bracket final. Kayla Hawkins went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Lia Trimboli had a solo homer in the sixth for Patchogue Medford. Commack will face No. 1 Sachem North at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Martha Avenue Field Complex.
