The "Dancing With the Stars Live" tour is stepping things up with a stop on Long Island.
On Monday, it was announced that the tour based on the popular reality TV competition had been extended and will now include a show at UBS Arena at Belmont Park in Elmont on Feb. 16. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at dwtstour.com. The tour will also be coming to Madison Square Garden on Feb. 5, which was announced earlier this month.
So far only the professional dancers from the ABC series who will be on the tour have been announced. They include Brandon Armstrong, Alan Bersten, Hailey Bills, Sharna Burgess, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson, Emma Slater (returning as co-host), Ezra Sosa, Britt Stewart and Adele Zaikman. Also performing will be the "Dancing With the Stars" troupe featuring Kamri Peterson, Onye Stevenson, Jaxon Willard and Carter Williams.
Celebrity guests will be announced at a later date.
Long Islanders love "Dancing With the Stars Live" judging by the number of times the show has made stops here since 2009. Previously performances have taken places at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale and, most recently, Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Brookville in January.
"Dancing With the Stars" premiered on ABC in the summer of 2005 and has continued to be a ratings powerhouse. According to Nielsen Media Research, the season 35 premiere in September pulled in 6.67 million on ABC and Disney+, up 24% from last year. Among the remaining celebrities competing for the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy this season are actor-singer Tatyana Ali, TV personality Tyler Cameron, actor Jenna Dewan, Paralympian Ezra Frech, figure skater Amber Glenn, TV personality Maura Higgins, baseball player Jackson Olson, "Glee" actor Harry Shum Jr., actor Julia Stiles and internet personality Connor Wood. Select celebrities from each current season typically appear on the tour.
"Dancing With the Stars" is an offshoot of the British TV show "Strictly Dancing," which premiered one year before the American version. Since then the series has been adapted into numerous versions airing in more than 60 countries.
