Free french fries on Long Island today at these 7 spots

If you needed one more reason (or excuse) to treat yourself on a summer Friday, here it is: Long Island fast-food chains and local eateries are serving up National French Fry Day freebies.

Shake Shack Known for its crinkle-cut fries, Shake Shack opened its seventh Long Island location at The Shops at SunVet in the spring. Order any burger and add a fry ($4). Use code FRYDAY26 at check out for a $4 discount Friday. You can also drop by locations in Lake Grove, Melville, New Hyde Park, Oceanside, Selden and Garden City for the deal. (Friday only)

Chick-fil-A With more than a dozen Long Island drive-thru locations and a deal in effect through Monday, Chick-fil-A might be your best bet for free fries this weekend. The chain, which opened its latest Long Island location in Bohemia in the spring, is making you work for the deal. App users should tab over to "For You" where they'll spot a new "Spot the Cows" mobile game and a "Play now for a tasty surprise" message. This deal is technically in honor of Cow Appreciation Day (Tuesday) rather than National French Fry day, but your taste buds won't mind. The prize? Free medium waffle fries redeemable by order-ahead delivery, pickup or walk-up order. (Through Monday)

McDonald's You'll have to download the chain's mobile app to access this deal, and spend $1. Once completed, place an order for a free medium fry available for drive-thru or counter pickup and delivery. (Friday only)

Five Guys Get a free order of boardwalk-style little fries (regularly $5.25) with an order of a burger, hot dog or sandwich when you order on the app or website using code FRYDAY26. You must create a free login account to redeem. (Friday only)

Smashburger All you have to do is spend $1 to redeem this free fry deal at participating locations in Hicksville, Port Washington, New Hyde Park, Wantagh and Lindenhurst. The deal includes Smashfries, sweet potato waffle fries or Scorchin' Fries (starting at $4). Redeem through web, app or in-restaurant orders. (Friday only)

Wendy’s America’s redhead is also participating in the deal. Patrons can get free any-size fry (junior, small, medium or large) with a purchase of $5 or more. The order must be placed through the Wendy’s app or website. (Friday only)

Chick & Tender This local favorite with outposts in Farmingdale and Westbury is giving away a free regular fry with the purchase of any sandwich, tender or wing entrée. (Friday only)
