With its blue-and-white tiling, wicker-backed chairs, requisite pink bougainvillea and whitewashed palette, there’s no trace of the former High Tide Taco Bar left at 257 Main St. in Farmingdale. After shuttering at the end of the summer, the space has been reborn as the fast-casual Mediterranean-inspired Greek Table.

The loss of Grecian Grill in 2023 — replaced by a successful Caribbean spot, The Barnyard — left Farmingdale residents without a solid option for hummus and pitas, souvlaki and gyros, and crunchy falafel. Jeff Rumman, the owner of High Tide, as well as Tasting Room Kitchen and Cocktails just down the street, has refashioned the former Mexican restaurant into a nostalgic Greek eatery.

"I think that was ultimately the deciding factor," Rumman said. "A lot of people missed the Grecian Grill, so we said, ‘Let’s bring Greek back into this neighborhood.’ ” Nearly full at lunch on a recent Tuesday, just a week after opening, it looks like Rumman might be onto something.

A hearty menu of classics, from traditional olive spreads ($10) to dips like hummus, tzatziki or spicy feta served with pita ($9), zucchini chips ($11) and spanakopita ($11), offers a good starting point. For lighter diners, there are salads including Greek ($14.95) and falafel ($17.95), as well as more interesting types, including a roasted beet salad ($14.95) and chickpea avocado ($14.95). There are gyros ($13.95) ranging from pork to chicken to grilled chicken and steak souvlaki to eggplant and tofu, as well as pita platters that can be customized with salmon or shrimp. We especially liked the build-your-own-Mediterranean rice bowl option, which starts at $16.95. A novel option? Pita melts, almost like a Greek quesadilla, loaded with feta and mozzarella and a protein of choice. The spicy chicken ($16.95) was a standout, but options include a beef gyro cheesesteak melt ($17.95) and, on the vegetarian side, a crispy, thin-sliced eggplant melt ($16.95).

On weekdays, try the lunch special, a pita stuffed with your choice of protein and fries or a side salad for $14.95.
