Copertino, 68, of Deer Park, is a registered Republican and is running on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election.
He has been a judge on the Suffolk County Family Court since 2025.
He was an NYC Transit Authority legal bureau attorney from 2008 to 2013, the last two years as its ethics officer. From 2001 to 2008, Copertino was general counsel in the Office of the MTA Inspector General.
From 1990 to 1996, he worked as an assistant district attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. Copertino then joined the New York State District Attorney’s General’s Office, assigned to the financial crimes division from 1996 to 1999.
He graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 1981. After law school, Copertino joined the Navy and became a judge advocate general for seven years. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1981.
