The Jets' long defensive nightmare is over.

Minkah Fitzpatrick stopped the Jets' NFL-record interception drought at 20 games in the second quarter of Sunday's 23-12 loss to the Chicago Bears when he stepped in front of Bears tight end Colston Loveland and picked off a pass by Tyson Bagent. (They could have finished with four interceptions, but penalties called the other three back.)

It's the Jets' first regular-season interception since Jan. 5, 2025, when Ashtyn Davis had two against Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley in the final week of the 2024 season. As a reminder, we are in the 2026 season, meaning the Jets went the entire 2025 season — Aaron Glenn's first as head coach — and the first three games of the 2026 season without picking off an opposing quarterback's pass. They were the first team since 1933, when interceptions became an official statistic, to not have any interceptions in a season.

Here's how the world has changed in the 637 days between Jets interceptions.

Gas was a lot cheaper

The nationwide average price per gallon of gas was about $3.06, according to AAA. That's about 42.8% lower than the nationwide average on Sunday, which was $4.37.

Mortgage rates were, too

The average mortgage rate for the week ending Jan. 2, 2025, was 6.91%, compared to 7.28% this past week, according to Freddie Mac.

Biden was still in office

The U.S. was in the final days of the Joe Biden administration, as Donald Trump was set to begin his second term as president 15 days after the Jets' season ended.

The pope is American

Pope Francis died on April 21, 2025, a few months after the Jets' season ended. Pope Leo XIV, the first American pontiff, was elected a few weeks later on May 8.

The Knicks won an NBA title

It had been 53 years since the Knicks won the NBA championship. In between Jets interceptions, they became the reigning NBA champions.

Pete Alonso was still a Met

He's now with the Orioles after signing a free-agent deal last offseason, and he felt quite comfortable at Citi Field when he returned in September, hitting two home runs and earning (and taking!) a curtain call from Mets fans.

John Harbaugh still coached the Ravens

He parted ways with the Baltimore 366 days later and became the Giants' head coach. The Giants are 3-1 under Harbaugh, and his impact has been felt.

The Islanders land the No. 1 pick

They somehow won the NHL Lottery after going in with a 3.5% chance of getting the No. 1 pick. Hello, Matthew Schaefer!

Who's under center?

The last time the Jets had an interception, it was still the Aaron Rodgers show at quarterback (albeit the final game of it). Four different quarterbacks have started a game for them since, including Geno Smith's return to the team Sunday.

Where's Davis now?

Davis left in the offseason and signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins. He started 12 games for Miami and had one interception, four pass deflections, one forced fumble and 65 combined tackles. He's now with the San Francisco 49ers after signing a one-year deal this past offseason.
