Jaxon Binkis scooped up a ground ball and scored a goal as time expired in the fourth quarter to give visiting Riverhead a 13-12 win over Whitman in a Suffolk League I boys lacrosse game in Huntington Station on Wednesday night. Binkis scored four goals and fed out one assist for Riverhead (4-3).

Nate Nentwich totaled three goals and one assist. Tucker Suter won 21 of his 28 faceoff opportunities. Ryan Perillo had two goals and two assists for Whitman (1-6).

Locust Valley 5, Mepham 4: James Fox had two goals and one assist to lead Locust Valley (4-3) in Nassau II-B. Grayson Iannotti made 10 saves. Nick Hesson scored two goals for Mepham (4-4).

BASEBALL

Valley Stream South 6, Friends Academy 0: Leo Sanchez fired a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts to lead Valley Stream South (6-4) in Nassau B. Danny Casey hit a two-run home run in the first inning and scored two runs.

TUESDAY’S GAME

Southampton 4, Mattituck 3: Nathan Bishop hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth inning to give Southampton (2-6) the lead for good in Suffolk VII. Bishop, a freshman, finished his varsity debut 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kyle Warner struck out 10 over seven innings to earn the win in his season debut.

Wesley Warner, a freshman and Kyle’s younger brother, went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. James Dudley went 3-for-4 with a double.
