Jesse Mott scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from Joey Poerio with 36 seconds remaining in Miller Place’s 6-5 win over Smithtown West in Suffolk II boys lacrosse on Monday. Poerio finished with three goals and two assists, helping Miller Place (3-2) overcome a 4-1 halftime deficit. Riley Meadows had 19 saves. Jake Rearick had three assists and Collin Murphy scored a pair of goals for Smithtown West (1-3).
Harborfields 13, East Islip 11: Jake LaRocco assisted Mikey Caccamo to give Harborfields (5-0) a 12-11 lead with 2:02 remaining before Chris Prainito assisted Anderson Howe’s goal for the final margin in Suffolk II. Prainito had four goals and six assists. Frank DiPalo had 13 saves, including a save in the last minute to preserve the lead. Alex Theodoropoulos led East Islip (1-2) with three goals and two assists.
Sayville 10, Bayport-Blue Point 8: Javen Taff had four goals and Tristan Vitale had three goals to lead Sayville (2-3) in Suffolk II. Sayville erased a 5-0 deficit in the win. Sean Casey added a goal and went 18-for-21 on faceoffs. Colin Clark had two goals and two assists for Bayport-Blue Point (3-2).
Locust Valley 12, Island Trees 6: William Nabet scored four goals and Byron Hafner had three goals for Locust Valley (2-2) in Nassau II-B. Ian Sharkey had two goals and five assists, Dylan Hafner had two goals and two assists and Grayson Iannotti made 12 saves for Locust Valley. Griffin Keesee had three goals for Island Trees (1-3).
GIRLS LACROSSE
Great Neck South 8, Freeport 6: Ella Covitt had four goals and an assist to lead Great Neck South (1-1) in Nassau IV. Matea Vukosa added two goals and an assist. Julia Mendoza Pineyro scored four goals for Freeport (0-5).
BASEBALL
Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 4, Oceanside 0: Dominic Macedonio struck out four and allowed two hits over six innings for Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK (2-0) in Nassau AAA-I. Brady Berger pitched the seventh inning and picked up a strikeout. Hunter Kass pinch hit in the bottom of the sixth inning and delivered an RBI single. Ryan Healy went 2-for-3.
Plainedge 11, Floral Park 1: Jaxson Torres struck out 12, walked none and allowed a run on three hits over five innings to lead Plainedge (3-0) in Nassau A. Jayden Gaghan and Mike Calapai each homered. Dom Santivasci went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs.
GIRLS BADMINTON
Valley Stream Central 4, Bellmore JFK 3: Sariya Chowdhury won, 21-17, 21-10, against Sophia Lancer at third singles. Kaylla Duncan and Winter Rodney defeated Maria Kontagisnicht and Lauren Elheinte, 21-8, 21-4, at third doubles. Fatima Haider and Ashmiza Asad clinched the win for Valley Stream Central (2-0) in Nassau III, defeating Kayla Heciney and Madeline Dutair, 21-17, 28-26, at second doubles.
Elmont 5, Island Trees 2: Kasie Rosier defeated Katherine Yu, 21-14, 21-5, at first singles to lead Elmont (1-2) in Nassau IV.
SOFTBALL
Glen Cove 8, MacArthur 3: Brooke Simmons allowed no earned runs and struck out seven for Glen Cove (1-2) in Nassau I. Mia Lupinski, Siena Scagliola and Alyssa Weigand each had two hits.
Deer Park 6, East Islip 5: Sam Lent had a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to lead Deer Park (3-0) in Suffolk III. Angeley Belliard went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Bella Cafiso had a hit, two walks and a run scored. Hailey Cordero drove in two runs. Marissa O’Hare had a hit and recorded the win.
