Four concerts have been added to the summer lineup at Wantagh's Northwell at Jones Beach Theater, with acts ranging from classic hip-hop to alternative rock. Here’s who’s coming, when they’re playing and how to get tickets:
KESHA: June 8 The "Tik Tok" and "We R Who We R" pop singer — who accused her producer Dr. Luke of rape in a lawsuit, defended herself against his countersuit for defamation, reached a settlement, parted with her label and formed her own — resurfaced last year with a new album, "Period," officially titled “." Her 33-date trek, titled "The Freedom Tour," runs from May to August, beginning in California and ending in Indiana (with four U.K. stops in July). Kesha’s supporting acts at Jones Beach will include the Canadian electro-funk duo Chromeo and the dance-pop singer Sizzy Rocket.
311 and DIRTY HEADS: July 16 Omaha, Nebraska’s 311 scored an alt-rock hit with "Down" in 1996 and helped usher in a new era of hip-hop-loving rock bands sporting trucker caps and facial hair. Although they were sometimes lumped in with "nu metal," 311’s reggae and dancehall influences nudged them closer to acts like Sublime and No Doubt. The band is co-headlining the "So Glad You Made It Tour" with Dirty Heads, a California reggae-rock band that formed in 1996. Support acts at the Jones Beach show will include Australia’s Ocean Alley and singer-guitarist Rome, known for his work with members of Sublime.
WU-TANG CLAN: Sept. 13 The Staten Island hip-hop legends have added a new run of 28 North American shows to their (supposed) farewell tour, now in its second year. (Its paradoxical title: "Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber.") In an Instagram video promoting the extended tour, fellow rapper Q-Tip, of A Tribe Called Quest, provides an enthusiastic narration: "This is the extra stretch," he says, "the one that happens because the crowd won’t let it end." The Clan’s support act will be Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, the Cleveland hip-hop group known for its No. 1 hit "Tha Crossroads."
TLC and SALT-N-PEPA with EN VOGUE: Sept. 15 Since the death of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in 2002, the vocal group TLC ("Waterfalls," "No Scrubs") has soldiered on as a duo with Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. They’re co-headlining a 33-date tour with Salt-N-Pepa, the pioneering female hip-hop duo whose hits include "Push It," "Shoop" and "Whatta Man." The latter song featured En Vogue, the R&B trio known for "My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)" and "Free Your Mind," who will serve as the opening act on all dates. The title of the tour: "It’s Iconic." General-public tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m.
Tickets for the other three tours go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
