Bennardo, 59, of East Northport, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He is seeking a second term.
He spent more than three decades in education, including nine years as the superintendent of the South Huntington school district.
Bennardo received his Ed.D. from St. John’s University.

Bennardo said he wants to maintain responsiveness in local government and have a “customer service” oriented town hall, as opposed to having “layers between the leadership and people,” which he said could lead to frustration among residents.
He wants to “demonstrate civility and leadership” in government, with Bennardo noting the divisive political climate, even within the Town of Huntington.
Bennardo said business and growth need to be balanced with maintaining the “Huntington way of life.” He said while growth and change is normal, it has to be done in a way the community is ready for, and without losing the “bucolic nature” of Long Island.
