BACKGROUND

  • Bennardo, 59, of East Northport, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He is seeking a second term.
  • He spent more than three decades in education, including nine years as the superintendent of the South Huntington school district.
  • Bennardo received his Ed.D. from St. John’s University.

ISSUES

  • Bennardo said he wants to maintain responsiveness in local government and have a “customer service” oriented town hall, as opposed to having “layers between the leadership and people,” which he said could lead to frustration among residents.
  • He wants to “demonstrate civility and leadership” in government, with Bennardo noting the divisive political climate, even within the Town of Huntington.
  • Bennardo said business and growth need to be balanced with maintaining the “Huntington way of life.” He said while growth and change is normal, it has to be done in a way the community is ready for, and without losing the “bucolic nature” of Long Island.
