BACKGROUND

  • Anastasia, 40, of Northport, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election.
  • He graduated from West Point in 2006 and served in the Army until 2011. He said he deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded a Bronze Star.
  • Anastasia earned a law degree in 2016 from Fordham University.

ISSUES

  • Anastasia said he wants to see more transparency and fiscal responsibility in town government and is in favor of an independent ethics board.
  • He called public safety and quality of life a “paramount issue” and said he believes in backing emergency services with stable funding and recruitment support. He wants safe street initiatives, drug and alcohol education and investment in public and community areas. He said he opposes ICE raids in Huntington.
  • Anastasia said balancing preservation with smart development and responsible growth is important. He wants Huntington’s “character” to be preserved but wants infrastructure to keep up to pace, including clean water and coastal resilience.
