BACKGROUND

Ennis, 70, of Long Beach, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He is making his first bid for public office.

He is an international sales executive for FedEx. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Syracuse University and taught business courses before entering sales.
- Ennis chairs the annual Long Beach Irish Day Parade and Festival and volunteers for the Michelle O’Neill Foundation, which raises funds for Make-a-Wish with an annual volleyball tournament. He founded the George Ennis short film festival, which ran in Long Beach from 2007 to 2015 and featured filmmakers from the New York area.
ISSUES
- Ennis said if elected he will seek to “hold the line on taxes so Long Beach can be affordable for everyone.”
- He said he will focus on quality-of-life issues, including crime, by working closely with the police department and listening to concerns and advice from constituents.
- He said he will seek to address “residential overdevelopment” by working with the city’s zoning board and its new planning board “to study ways to keep the charm and feel of Long Beach.”
