BACKGROUND

  • Anand, 58, of Syosset, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She is a small-business owner and fashion buyer with experience in contracts, operations and negotiations.
  • She has spent more than 18 years living and working in the Syosset community.
  • Anand said that years ago, when her young children and their friends were running to the park while cars sped through without stopping, she worked to get a stop sign installed on Hillside Lane.

ISSUES

  • Anand said that too many residents have asked for basic things — safe streets, working services — and have been ignored. She said she would put community first.
  • Her ideas for changing town meetings include holding them during evenings so working people can participate, and having greater explanations of the budget so people can better understand where taxes are most used.
  • Anand said she would focus on practical, meaningful change that improves everyday life, like finding ways to help make living in the town more affordable.
