BACKGROUND
- Hand, 64, of Massapequa Park, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative Party lines in the general election. He was elected to the town board in 2017.
- He has served as chairman of the Massapequa Water District Board of Water Commissioners and as an officer on the executive board of the Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners Association. As a councilman, Hand said he has overseen approvals to help the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation jumpstart remediation of the Grumman plume.
- Hand has worked with his colleagues on the town board to improve parks by adding field upgrades, enhancing community pool amenities and expanding public Wi-Fi availability. He is a trustee for the Christina Renna Foundation, a nonprofit that assists in research for children’s cancer.
ISSUES
- Hand said one of his top priorities is fiscal discipline — to continue to ensure that every dollar spent is done so responsibly, while delivering the best services.
- Hand also plans to continue paving projects, upgrades and enhancements at recreational facilities, and to protect communities from zombie properties.
- Safeguarding the environment by increasing initiatives with water quality protection remains an area of focus, as does making historical improvements to downtown Hicksville.
