BACKGROUND

  • Scagliola, 48, of Glen Cove, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She is seeking a fourth term and also serves as the city council liaison to the Glen Cove City School District and the Glen Cove Youth Bureau.
  • She is a freelance financial journalist covering mergers and acquisitions, private equity, lending, banking and the bond market.
  • Scagliola is president of the Glen Cove Education Foundation, serves on the board of the Glen Cove Business Improvement District and is a member of the Dan Daly Historical Institute advisory committee.

ISSUES

  • Scagliola said she continues to seek improvements in Long Island Rail Road service for Glen Cove riders on the Oyster Bay Line and worked with riders to add an extra express train and a direct train to the peak westbound schedule.
  • She said she negotiated a lease for a new 200-seat live performance theater in downtown Glen Cove, which she hopes will attract more visitors to the city.
  • Scagliola said that through golf outings and other special events, she has raised money to purchase a new scoreboard and a piano for Glen Cove High School and flexible seating for district K-5 classrooms.
