BACKGROUND
- Maccarone, 35, of Glen Cove, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He was elected a councilmember in 2017, lost a reelection bid in 2019 and was reelected in 2021. He is seeking a fourth term.
- Maccarone, a son of former councilman and planning commission member John Maccarone, is an attorney at his family’s law firm in Glen Cove. He has a bachelor’s degree in business and information technology and a juris doctor law degree.
- He is the mayor’s liaison to the city recreation board, which raises public and private funds for local youth facilities.
ISSUES
- Maccarone said the major issue he is running on “is always taxes, so we’ll continue to keep those flat.”
- He said, “Through conservative borrowing and spending, while keeping taxes flat, we’ve been able to make major improvements to our youth facilities, parks and other infrastructure without burdening the taxpayers with increases.”
- Maccarone said he will continue to oppose “the overdevelopment of our city.”
